As far as we know from the accounts of scripture the young man never came back and never received salvation. He was not willing to give up his possessions even if doing so meant he would be granted eternal life. The young man turned and walked away with his head down in sadness. Mark 10:21 (ESV)Ģ1 And Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven and come, follow me.” The young man was told to give all he had away and then to follow after Jesus. So Jesus moved on to the one thing holding him back. Jesus told him to keep the commands which he said he had already done for years. Within the pages of the Bible, we get to see such a decision play out firsthand.Ī wealthy young man came to Jesus to find out what he needed to do in order to receive eternal life. That is a fairly easy statement to make though as few are ever forced to give up things in their life in order to follow Jesus. Even if was the most important thing to them in their life after God. Many Christians would say that they would easily give up everything for Jesus. Those things that are important to us and that we would not be willing to give up unless we simply had to. Everyone has something in their life that they appreciate, enjoy, love, and even cherish.
